USING YOUR INTERNET POWERS FOR GOOD
I'm basic.
I'm not ashamed of it.
In the same way that every boy that went to my high school still has their football highlight reels in their twitter bios, in the same way that every 11 year old in America would sell their soul to Jake Paul, and in the same way that every white dad has to ask if 'there's a booth available?'
I'm basic.
But I wear that stereotype with pride.
Hi, I'm indy, Im 20 years old and I have a blog. A youtube channel. And seasonal depression.
The poster child for millenials everywhere!
To me, it's cool and its what I like to do. I like to write and I like to make videos. But it's so looked down upon lately!
Bloggers, instagramers, and youtubers are the easiest target.
and I get it.
I would probably rather dive into an overflowing dumpster than swipe up to shop your cable knit fall sweater.
but I wish there was more support out there in our weird little internet world, you know?
Especially for us basic folk.
The photographers. The vloggers. The pumpkin spice lovers. The makeup enthusiasts. The models. The fangirls. The summer salesman. The hair stylists. The swiper uppers. The Riverdale watchers. The clothing line starters. The gym babes. The soundcloud rappers.
I AM YOUR INTERNET MOM AND I WILL PROTECT YOU AT ALL COSTS.
The internet should never be a place that we are scared to share our talents, or our interests, or our beliefs.
If you like photography, you shouldn't be hesitant to make an instagram profile for it, in fear that you'll get made fun of for being 'like everyone else.' I will follow it! I will recommend you to clients. I will print out your pictures in wallet size and hand them out to strangers in heavily populated areas.
If you're blessed with great bone structure and a killer smize, I'm actually mad at you if you don't become a model and make me hate myself on a daily basis with your sexy photoshoots and daily reminders that you won the genetic lottery. DO IT. YOU DESERVE IT. I WILL COMMENT HEART EYES ON EVERY SINGLE POST.
If you love fashion, and you want to start your own clothing company, or fashion blog. I. RESPECT. YOU. I love you. And I want to be your best friend. No one really considers how hard it is to put so much time and money and even faith, into a startup business. Think of how hard it is when you're constantly hearing how lame it is to be a fashion blogger. Or how many basic clothing lines are out there and that they're all the same. So just know, I will support you. I will swipe up on your black friday finds. I will buy your handmade baby bows. I don't even have a baby. But i'm here for you, baby.
You have a soundcloud?? I will listen to your acoustic cover of 'Bodak Yellow.' I will call my grandma and make her listen to your acoustic cover of Bodak Yellow.
You're passionate about makeup? let me hype up your highlighter.
You made a youtube channel? I will LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE DAMN IT!! SLIME VIDEOS ARE THE BACK BONE OF OUR NATION.
It seems so trendy to talk about what you hate, or to roast someone for being basic. But we're all a little basic right? We all grew up on the same disney channel. We all miss vine. We all know every word to "All Star" by smash mouth. We're not as different as you think.
Promote what you love. Keep quiet about what you don't.
This post is really just about putting your judgement aside and showing a little bit of love to your local acai bowl loving, basic girl who has hair extensions and won't stop talking about her trip to europe and probably has an infinity sign tattoo on her wrist, and most definitely tweets 'milk and honey' quotes when she’s mad at her ex.
I like that girl.
I am that girl.
Let's be nice to that girl.
So next time you tweet at a youtuber for being typical, or criticize a model for being full of themselves, or roll your eyes at another gym selfie, just take a moment and think that what they are posting probably took a little bit of courage, and maybe means something to them.
Instead, use your internet powers for good.
Like the selfie.
Donate to their cause.
Retweet the link to their new song.
Swipe UP!!!
Put their insecurities to rest.
And if you do this, I promise, they will do it for you too.
Love,
internet mom
